Glasgow at its darkest, Beyond the Rage tells the story of Kenny O’Neill, a Glasgow hard man troubled by events from his childhood.
I loved this book, the references to streets and places I know so well drew me in, the toughness of Glasgow combined with our gallows humour kept me enthralled from start to finish.
No punches are pulled, there is swearing, violence and sex – but it is what it is, I can’t imagine Glasgow hardmen walking around sipping tea and saying things crivvens help ma boab!
Kenny quickly grew on me despite his hard man character. There was a sense of something decent underneath the tough veneer unlike Mason Budge who is psychotic and sadistic throughout.
A well deserved five stars and I am now off to get the rest of Michael J Malone’s books!
