Humber Boy B – Ruth Dudgall

Humber Boy B tore my heart into pieces. The tale of Ben released from prison under a new identity after serving 8 years for the murder of a 10 year old boy when he himself was only 10.

The plot is abhorrent to us all – but this book draws us right back to Ben’s childhood, his own feelings of worthlessness, the impact of parental neglect and the ripples of damage that affected each and every one involved in the life and the murder of 10 year old Noah.

As a parent my heart broke for Jessica destroyed by the death of her child and  for Ben – the unwanted child. I should feel anger and hatred towards Ben but I couldn’t – only a deep sense of sorry for a life lost while still alive.

I was deeply moved by Humber Boy B on so many levels and these emotions will stay with me for a long time.

I definitely recommend this book to others and although the first book I’ve read by Ruth Dudgall it won’t be my last – a well deserved 5 stars from me
