Well, we are now just over 2 weeks away until #AyeWrite Glasgow starts on the 9th of March! Have you got all your tickets booked yet? If not – why not!
This year we have a great choice of events and some #BloodyBrilliant crime fiction authors appearing! One event high on my “must attend” list is #3SlicesofCrime featuring Steph Broadribb; SJI Holliday and Russel McLean on the 11th March 81.15pm in the Mitchell Library.
“This crime event brings together one of the founders of Bloody Scotland, Two of the infamous Slice Girls and the host of Noir at the Bar! Steph Broadribb’s novel Deep Down Dead introduces us to Lori Anderson, a fearless Florida bounty hunter (an occupation the author has some experience of). When not writing her own novels Steph is a blogger at http://www.crimethrillergirl.com The Damselfly is the latest novel from SJI Holliday. Set in the small Scottish town of Banktoun, DS Davie Gray tries to hold together a community once again rocked by tragedy. In Ed’s Dead the latest novel by Russel D McLean we meet Jen Carter who works in a bookshop is a failed writer and has a crap boyfriend called Ed – well, you can guess the rest…” (Aye Write Brochure)
Steph has been attracting masses of glowing reviews for her debut novel #DeepDownDead featuring Lori Anderson, a tough and fearless bounty hunter from Florida…
Deep Down Dead: “Lori Anderson is as tough as they come, managing to keep her career as a fearless Florida bounty hunter separate from her role as single mother to nine-year-old Dakota, who suffers from leukaemia. But when the hospital bills start to rack up, she has no choice but to take her daughter along on a job that will make her a fast buck. And that’s when things start to go wrong. The fugitive she’s assigned to haul back to court is none other than JT, Lori’s former mentor – the man who taught her everything she knows … the man who also knows the secrets of her murky past.
Not only is JT fighting a child exploitation racket operating out of one of Florida’s biggest theme parks, Winter Wonderland, a place where ‘bad things never happen’, but he’s also mixed up with the powerful Miami Mob. With two fearsome foes on their tails, just three days to get JT back to Florida, and her daughter to protect, Lori has her work cut out for her. When they’re ambushed at a gas station, the stakes go from high to stratospheric, and things become personal.”
This is definitely one to be added to my #TBR list!
SJI Holliday is the author of the fantastic Banktoun series and her latest in the trilogy, Damselfly has recently been published and I can tell you it is a read you don’t want to miss!
Damselfly: “Katie Taylor is the perfect student. She’s bright and funny, she has a boyfriend who adores her and there are only a few months left of school before she can swap Banktoun for the bright lights of London. Life gets even better when she has an unexpected win on a scratch card. But then Katie’s luck runs out.
Her tragic death instead becomes the latest in a series of dark mysteries blighting the small town. The new school counsellor Polly McAllister, who has recently returned to Banktoun to make amends in her own personal life, is thrown in at the deep end as the pupils and staff come to terms with Katie’s death. And it’s not long before she uncovers a multitude of murky secrets. Did Katie have enemies? Is her boyfriend really so squeaky clean? And who is her brother’s mysterious friend?
With Banktoun’s insular community inflamed by gossip and a baying mob stirring itself into a frenzy on social media, DS Davie Gray and DC Louise Jennings must work out who really murdered Katie before someone takes matters into their own hands…”
Other than crime fiction what do these two sultry ladies have in common…well they also are part of #TheSliceGirls….anyone lucky enough to have managed to get a golden ticket to #CrimeAtTheCoo at #BloodyScotland will have seen these girls in action! Described as the #SassyFemaleCrimeWriter band – they are Crime Fictions’ very own answer to Ugly Coyote! It’s on my bucket list to see at this year’s festival!
Sharing the stage with this lovely duo is Russell McLean – “Russel’s path to publication started at sixteen when he submitted his first full-length novel to Virgin Publishing New Doctor Who Adventures. The novel was summarily rejected and he spent the next fourteen years perfecting his style before finally switching genres and writing dark crime fiction.” (http://www.russeldmcleanbooks.com). He is also the co-founder of Noir at the Bar Glasgow. Russell’s latest book to hit the shelves is “Ed’s Dead” and it will be available from the 1st of March…just in time to get your hands on a copy to be signed by the man himself at #AyeWrite
Ed’s Dead: “A high-octane read.” – Maxim Jakubowski Meet Jen. She works in a bookshop and likes the odd glass of Prosecco… oh, and she’s about to be branded The Most Dangerous Woman in Scotland. Jen Carter is a failed writer with a rubbish boyfriend, Ed. That is until she accidentally kills him one night. Now that Ed’s dead, she has to decide what to do with his body, his drugs and a big pile of cash. And, more pressingly, how to escape the hitman who’s been sent to recover Ed’s stash. Soon Jen’s on the run from criminals, corrupt police officers and the prying eyes of the media. Who can she trust? And how can she convince them that the trail of corpses left in her wake are just accidental deaths? A modern noir that proves, once and for all, the female of the species really is more deadly than the male.”
Between the 3 of them, they are bound to come up with some shenanigans for the Aye Write audience! I’m really looking forward to this event! If you are going along then come and say hi to me!
