Bring Me Flowers: A gripping serial killer thriller with a shocking twist (Detectives Kane and Alton Book 2) by [Hood, D.K.]

I Loved the cover for this new book, #BringMeFlowers,  from DK Hood and the prologue intrigued me, so when that #NaughtyNoelle from Bookouture dangled the prospect of a #BlogTour spot in front of me, I was helpless to resist! I’m delighted to be closing this tour down alongside the delightful jenmedsbookreviews

Before I share my thoughts, here’s what the blurb says:

She didn’t know he was watching. Until it was too late.

She’d walked this path hundreds of times before, she knew every twist and turn. But today was different. She didn’t know someone was waiting for her, hidden away from view. She didn’t know this was the last time she’d walk this path.

Hidden deep in the forest, schoolgirl Felicity Parker is found carefully laid out on a rock with nothing but a freshly picked bunch of flowers next to her lifeless form. Detective Jenna Alton is called in to investigate the gruesome discovery.

With the body found just off a popular hiking route, Jenna believes the killer is a visitor to the town… until a second local girl is discovered.

Within days, Kate Bright, a school friend of Felicity’s, is found brutally murdered at the local swimming pool and once again, the killer has displayed his victim in a terrifying manner and left flowers at the scene.

The town is gripped with fear and Jenna and her deputy, David Kane, now know that the killer is living amongst them and that he’s picking off school girls one by one. But they don’t know who is next on the list.

As the trail goes cold, Kane and Alton are forced to sit and wait for the killer to make his next move. But now he has a new victim in his sights, and he’s looking much closer to home …

If you love Robert Dugoni, Karin Slaughter and Rachel Abbott you’ll love this nail-biting thriller from D.K. Hood.

My thoughts:

The rodeo is in town but so is a killer and the race is on to find him before another one of Black Rock Falls’ young women is brutally murdered.

This is the 2nd outing for Sheriff Jenna Alton and her Deputy, David Kane and while I missed out a little by not reading the 1st in the series there is nothing that is insurmountable; the author provides just enough information for the characters to make sense but not too much that it would be overkill for those who had previously met them. This time around a new deputy has been recruited, Shane Wolfe, and he brings some new skills and expertise to the team but will his arrival upset the apple cart?

Each of our three law enforcement agents, Kane, Alton and Wolfe all have their own secrets to hide yet together their connection is dynamite.

Jenna intrigued me, her past is certainly not far behind her and the tension she feels is quite palpable. Will she and Kane hook up or has both their pasts damaged them too much for any relationship to develop. Adding Wolfe to the mix was a touch of brilliance, he’s a strong, silent character whose presence fills the pages and I got a real sense of strength and resilience from him. I’m being very careful not to give too much away! You will just need to read it and see!

And of course, the plot; beautiful young girls going missing is always a killer hook! And it’s no different here; the killer sent shivers down my spine as his narrative outlined his desire to kill and his unique MO. Eughhh I love it when a writer creates a character that creeps me out inside my head and this is one guy you wouldn’t want turning up with a bunch of flowers for you!

So many potential suspects, my wee head was spinning as I tried to work out the whodunnit and whydunnit! I do love a good old workout for the brain and this one kept me guessing all the way through!
