With a huge thanks to Anne over at randomthingsthroughmyletterbox, the author and the publisher, Headline, for inviting me onto this “Around the Blogs in 30 Days Tour” for Karen Hamilton’s #ThePerfectGirlfriend

Before I share my thoughts, here’s what the official blurb says:

Juliette loves Nate. She will follow him anywhere. She’s even become a flight attendant for his airline, so she can keep a closer eye on him.

They are meant to be.

The fact that Nate broke up with her six months ago means nothing. Because Juliette has a plan to win him back. She is the perfect girlfriend. And she’ll make sure no one stops her from getting exactly what she wants.

True love hurts, but Juliette knows it’s worth all the pain…

My thoughts:

Sometimes fate just cannot be overturned and that is exactly what Juliette believes when she goes all out to ensure that her one true love, Nate, and she are reunited forever! WOW think Fatal Attraction, Single White Female and all other movies around obsessive women and The Perfect Girlfriend blows them out the water! You want to get your stalking techniques down to a fine art then hook up with Juliette because that woman is a Grade A+ expert!

The Perfect Girlfriend follows Juliette as she is determined to prove to Nate that she is in fact the perfect partner for him despite the fact that he dumped her 7 months ago. Not content with sending him love letters and little mementoes to change his mind, hell no, she goes way beyond that and this novel takes you deep into the mind of a woman so obsessed that it seems like she will stop at nothing to get what she wants!

The novel also provides a fascinating insight into the world of cabin crew and it was no surprise to find out that the author was drawing on her own experience in this field. It gave a realistic picture of what life is like for those who work in this industry and very much proves it is not all as glamorous as the facade would have us believe.

Without giving away too much of the plot we follow Juliette as she narrates her life story and while we really shouldn’t sympathise with a stalker, it was so difficult not to get where she was coming from and what led her to carry out her plan of action. I’m afraid to say, despite the fact she was a pretty unlikable character, I was rooting for her all the way. But will she succeed in her quest, you need to read the book to find out!

Despite the outlandish actions of Juliette the novel was an authentic and edgy read; straightforward narrative and the building tension kept me glued to the pages from the very first page. Frighteningly chilling and incredibly tense, The Perfect Girlfriend was one of those books that when I picked it up, I just could not put it down! In fact I didn’t put it down and read it in one sitting unable to tear myself away until I reached the end! Highly recommended for fans of psychological thrillers looking for a read to hook and engage!
