Welcome to #TimeForCrime a new series here at Chapterinmylife

I am inviting bloggers and authors talk about their favourite subject crime, with a set of quick-fire Q&As taking you to the dark heart of the person behind the book or the blog!

This week I am delighted to welcome Joanne from portobellobookblog

Name: Joanne Baird

About you: I’m a busy mum of two teenage girls who lives by the sea in Edinburgh and am currently a slave to my new FitBit! I am passionate about reading and love the new friendships, connections and opportunities blogging has opened up to me. I am involved with organising my local community book festival. When not reading I enjoy cooking, baking, spending time with my family and friends and walking (see earlier FitBit comment!)

Let’s delve into Joanne’s dark mind…

Why crime fiction? – I read in most genres and probably have a marginal preference for contemporary or romantic fiction. But I do like to go over to the dark side every now and again, as long as it’s not too gory!

Favourite book you have reviewed – Crime wise? Oh that’s hard so I’m just going to pick one of my favourites from the last year. I’ll choose The Damselfly by SJI Holliday. It’s the third and final book in the Bank Toun trilogy and I think the author saved the best for last!

You are stranded on a desert island, you can take one book, what will it be? – I think it probably wouldn’t be a crime novel in case it had me looking over my shoulder watching for someone hiding behind a palm tree to jump out on me! I’d be more likely to take something like the complete works of Jane Austen, something I could enjoy the time to relax and re-read. Although I think that may only be available for Kindle, not actually in one book so that’s maybe cheating a bit.

Do you have a kill list and who is on it? Oh no, I’m far too nice! Although there are a few people I would happily leave on that desert island…..

Top criminal – I have a soft spot for Adam from Flowers for the Dead by Barbara Copperthwaite. Somehow, Barbara made me have sympathy for this serial killer.

Top fictional detective –  I do like Rebus and Cormoran Strike (although strictly speaking he’s not a detective) but I am also a huge fan of DI Tom Reynolds from Jo Spain’s excellent series of novels. In particular, the first in the series With Our Blessing is brilliant.

Planner or pantser/organised or beautifully chaotic – as a blogger, I’m definitely a planner and organised. I have a list of books I have to read for the next three months or so, along with the date  I’ve agreed to review if for a blog tour or publication date if not. If I’m up to date, then a book from my sadly neglected personal book shelf might just sneak in.

Best place to dispose a body – in a peat bog on a remote Scottish island in the Outer Hebrides……

Where can we find you? (Oh your blog details, dafty, any personal haunts send them to me privately!) You can find me on my blog – portobellobookblogon Twitter @portybelle, on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/portobellobookblog and very occasionally on Instagram @portybelle

Thank you so much for joining me today Joanne! And I don’t believe you for one minute that you don’t have a kill list when you have clearly thought out a body dump site! 😉 Head over to Joanne’s blog and check out her cracking reviews!
