Welcome to #TimeForCrime a new series here at Chapterinmylife.

I am inviting bloggers and authors talk about their favourite subject crime, with a set of quick-fire Q&As taking you to the dark heart of the person behind the book or the blog!

This week I am delighted to welcome author Nic Parker.

Name: Nic Parker

About you: I live in a rural part of southwest Germany with my husband and six cats. I was creating stories in my mind since I was a child. Ever since I read Red Dragon in my early teens I have been fascinated by the dark side of the human mind, serial killers and also the horror genre. In my private life I am a bookkeeper in both senses of the word.

let’s delve into the darkest recesses of Nic’s mind…

  • Why crime fiction?

It’s the perfect form of escapism for me. You can read about devious minds and serial killers in your cosy home. You try to solve puzzling cases along with the detectives while you’re reading. You get to delve deeply into the mind of very disturbed people while you are glad you are not that crazy (yet). Crime fiction has so many aspects to offer, that’s why it will always be both, highly intriguing and entertaining.

  • Favourite book you have written

Well, only one of my books has seen the light of the day so far. I am fond of all of my books that I’ve written even the ones that haven’t been published yet. I have so many favourites books that I have read, some thirty years old, some I read just recently…I can’t choose or the list would be loooong.

  • You are stranded on a desert island, you can take one book, what will it be?

Hmph, that is very tough…as a thriller it would definitely be Red Dragon by Thomas Harris. If I am allowed fantasy/horror I might smuggle John Connolly’s The Book of Lost Things and Nick Cutter’s The Troop along in my bag

  • Do you have a kill list and who is on it?

I can hold grudges but not that hard that I’d execute somebody and frankly, I am too bloody lazy to get rid of the mess and the body. Having said that, the more I see how society is turning into a cold, detached, bleak, ruthless crowd I might actually go full Charlie Bronson in Death Wish in a few years time …if I’d go to prison definitely not for one murder, I’d make it count! It wouldn’t be a bad thing to kill all those corrupt money/power hungry politicians, sports officials and CEOs…but I guess there are always enough wankers around to fill their places right away so it would be futile.

  • Top criminal (real or fiction)

Hannibal Lecter, Walter White and The Joker. As for real criminals…I am not at all a fan of real life killers, I always think about the victims they killed and the hurt they caused for the friends and families…but I am a huge fan of each hustler who steals from the wealthy, they are my heroes

  • Top fictional detective

Will Graham, Bruce Wayne, Jonathan Sparks, Sherlock Holmes

  • Planner or pantser/organised or beautifully chaotic

I can’t thrive in chaos. I am organised, though not as meticulous as in my job as a bookkeeper, and some days I am prone to being diverted by social media

  • Favourite method of murder

Thinking of ways it hasn’t been done yet – or committing a murder so it will look like someone else did it

  • Best place to dispose a body

Never, never, never dispose of a body! Completely dissolve the corpse (see: Walter White) so there is no evidence to be found.

  • Where can we find you? (Oh your blog details, dafty, any personal haunts send them to me privately!)
