As always, I am delighted to be supporting Scottish Crime Writer extraordinaire, Douglas Skelton, in the launch of his latest novel “The Janus Run”. I love Douglas’ books, every single time there is something a little bit different and The Janus Run is no exception! It is dynamite!
The Janus Run is published tomorrow so go get clicking to get yourself a copy, you will not regret it!
Before I share my thoughts, here’s what the official blurb says:
When Coleman Lang finds his girlfriend Gina dead in his New York City apartment, he thinks nothing could be worse… until he becomes the prime suspect.
Desperate to uncover the truth and clear his name, Coleman hits the streets. But there’s a deranged Italian hitman, an intuitive cop, two US Marshals, and his ex-wife all on his tail. And trying to piece together Gina’s murky past without dredging up his own seems impossible. Worse, the closer he gets to Gina’s killer, the harder it is to evade the clutches of the mysterious organisation known only as Janus – from which he’d long since believed himself free.
Packed with plot twists, suspense and an explosive climax, The Janus Run is an edge-of-the-seat, breathtaking thriller – NYC noir at its finest.
Reading all the author recommendations on the blurb for this latest book from Douglas Skelton, I was wondering if it could live up to the high praise from fellow authors such as:
“A breakneck New York thriller – I can’t wait to read the next one.” Mason Cross
“A natural successor to Ed McBain, Douglas Skelton gives us a sharp and thrilling ride – a brilliant read.” Michael J Malone
“A defining work by our finest emerging crime fiction talent.” Quintin Jardine
“Ludlum meets Grisham in this fast-paced, fast-talking New York City thriller. Fascinating and utterly compelling.” Denzil Meyrick
“Pacy, great characters, twisted enough to keep me guessing.” Alex Gray
“Skelton really delivers with The Janus Run : the pace is relentless, the sense of place authentic, a story that draws you in and won’t let go till the final page.” Craig Russell
“What do you get if you mix a deep-cover agent, a witness protected mob member, a psychotic killer and more action than you can pull a trigger at? Welcome to the wonderful, high-speed, rollercoaster planet that is Douglas Skelton’s The Janus Run .” Gordon Brown
“Bullet-ridden, bold, brilliant, The Janus Run hits its stride on the first page and hurtles to its conclusion with the speed of a runaway subway. Utterly unmissable.” Neil Broadfoot
“This is brilliant-black-diamond hard writing … brutal and enthralling. You never know where the next bullet is coming from. You’d better hang on tight for this one.” Mark Leggatt
Believe me when I say it not only lived up to them, it exceeded them! My brain was fried by the time I put the book down! Douglas Skelton has taken a trip across the pond to the Big Apple for his latest novel and he certainly isn’t pulling any punches with this one. Straight for the jugular this one opens with a bang and doesn’t let up all the way to the very end!
It’s not everyday you wake up to a dead girlfriend but that’s exactly what happens to Coleman Lang when he wakes up and finds Gina dead in his bed. What follows is a breathtaking heart stopping thriller read! What an intriguing character he is, with a dark and mysterious past, Douglas Skelton has created a new hero for all you thriller lovers out there! This guy has it all, in buckets – he’s dark, he’s brooding, he’s mysterious and with a strong moral ethic (which he happens to break every now and then) and he left me wanting MORE MORE MORE!
A taut cat and mouse game that sees Lang on the run, alongside a most unlikely companion, with a posse right behind him. Determined to prove his innocence and find out who killed Gina, Lang is taken to the limits in this heart racing read! There is so much I want to say about the plot but can’t as I don’t want to spoil a single minute for you! A whole cast of characters join Lang, some on his side and some very much against him!
Politics, mafia and very secret, secret services all collide providing action and intrigue! This book is dynamite! It is one of those reads where you start reading as fast as the action on the pages and have to stop and breathe then go back and re read what you missed! Douglas’s trademark wit and black humour has travelled well across the pond losing none of its sharpness!
Authentically brutal, powerfully plotted and perfectly executed The Janus Run will be ringing in your ears for a long time after you turn the last page!
The Janus Run is available to purchase:
Douglas is also appearing at Bloody Scotland and Tidelines book festivals this year! Why not go along and stalk him (he loves it really!) and he will sign a copy of the book for you!
