#BookReview #TheLiarsWife Samantha Hayes @samhayes @Bookouture

I decided to treat myself to a little pre-Christmas goodie from Bookouture this week and I opted for Samantha Hayes “The Liar’s Wife”.

Before I share my thoughts, here’s what the official blurb says:

When Ella wakes up in hospital following a hit and run incident, she is scared and confused. Close to tears, her eyes fall on a get-well-soon card on the window sill and the nurse reassures her that her loving husband will be back soon.

But Ella has never been married…

Absolutely love twisty and unputdownable psychological thrillers like Girl on the Train, The Wife Between Us and Gone Girl? Then you will be totally hooked by this jaw-dropping novel about the dangerous secrets behind a perfect marriage.

My thoughts:

Oh, Ella Bella, what a tangled mess you have found yourself in! My senses were on high alert as this chilling story of domestic abuse so twisted played out right in front of my eyes!

Ella Sinclair is involved in a hit and run accident. Waking up from a coma she is surprised to find a man claiming to be her husband waiting for her with a whole new life mapped out for them. The only problem is Ella doesn’t have a husband but she definitely knows who this man is! It soon becomes clear that he has a link to her past and the hold he has on her means she believes that she has no choice but to go along with his demands. What follows is a twisted and dark tale which will give you the fear!

This one is a slow burner so don’t go looking for a wham bam action read. It’s dark, disturbing and it’s intense. Full to the brim with secrets, lies, control, and manipulation this one will draw you in hook line and sinker!

There are elements in the book where you will have to suspend your disbelief (and hey that’s ok, it’s fiction, right!) But If I were to make one criticism of the book it would be around the baby in the storyline. Without giving away any spoilers I just felt this part stretched my boundaries just a little too much. But that aside this novel chilled me to the core! Ella’s “husband” Jacob was bad to the bone! What a brilliant job the author done in portraying the chilling reality of domestic abuse. Jacob was a cold-blooded psychopath and my heart was racing at each scene he appeared in. I could almost see it play out on the screen in front of me! I felt like screaming “watch out he’s behind you” at times as his level of control and abuse intensified as the book went on.

The tension ramps up as the conclusion is reached but will Ella find the courage to break free and just who else will be caught in the crossfire. The Liar’s Wife would play out perfectly on the screen, This one is perfect for fans of domestic noir looking for a disturbing read.
