It’s an Orenda feast for me this month and today I’m delighted to bring you my review of “Deep Dirty Truth” from Steph Broadribb. With huge thanks to Anne over at RandomThingsTours, the author and the publisher for my review copy.
Before I share my thoughts, here’s what the official blurb says:
A price on her head. A secret worth dying for. Just 48 hours to expose the truth…
Single-mother bounty hunter Lori Anderson has finally got her family back together, but her new-found happiness is shattered when she’s snatched by the Miami Mob – and they want her dead. Rather than a bullet, they offer her a job: find the Mob’s ‘numbers man’ – Carlton North – who’s in protective custody after being forced to turn federal witness against them. If Lori succeeds, they’ll wipe the slate clean and the price on her head – and those of her family – will be removed. If she fails, they die.
Brimming with tension, high-stakes jeopardy and high-voltage action, and a deep, emotional core, Deep Dirty Truth is an unmissable thriller by one of the freshest and most exciting voices in crime fiction.
Lori Anderson is shaping up to be one of my favourite strong female protagonists. Steph Broadribb has created something quite wonderful with this series. She gives you all the action, all the thrills and she wrings every ounce of feeling out of her readers with this one!
Deep Dirty Truth is the 3rd in the series and yep you can read it as a stand-alone but why in the hell would you want to do that when you can indulge yourself in some kick-ass reads! But if you want to fly by the seat of your pants the author provides you with enough of a back story so you can keep up!
Lori, JT and Dakota are playing happy families but life never goes smoothly when Lori Anderson is in the picture! Steph Broadribb might ease you in gently but don’t be getting too comfy as it only takes a very short time before you are hurled straight into the action! Lori’s past has come back to haunt her and it’s all guns blazing in a race against time to save her own life as well as that of her family. Can she make it?!
Some writers have this tremendous skill of being able to provide you with an action-packed novel which never lets up the pace yet still provides you as a reader, the space to breathe & Steph Broadribb is one of those writers.
Of course, it’s not all about the thrills and pace, this series is pretty packed with some well-drawn characters who draw you into their lives. Red, Lori’s old mentor is back on the scene and I just love his laid-back approach to life; FBI Agent Alex Monroe is also back on the scene, whom Lori would rather not consort with but she needs both men to feed her the intel she needs for the task set.
At just 9 years old Dakota has seen and experienced things that most grown-ups will never see in their lifetime but she remains a well adjusted and upbeat kid. Her father, JT, now what can I say but this guy has got a few hearts thumping in the land of book lovers! Add to the mix, Carlton North, Who is meant to be one of the bad guys but there is something about him that draws you to him. A few twists and turns, well ok actually a whole theme-park full of rollercoaster moments will leave your head and heart in a spin!
Without giving away any spoilers we have gators, The Mob and truths uncovered in this hard-boiled and action-packed third instalment of the Lori Anderson series. If you like your thrillers thrilling, your pace pacy and your action action-packed then Deep Dirty Truth is going to blow you away!
