It’s always happening in Glasgow, there is always something bookish going on and this May the Southside Fringe has some fantastic events!

The Southside Fringe Festival is a 16 day annual festival held in May in venues, businesses and locations across the Southside of Glasgow. Each year they have between 30 – 50 local venues hosting between 100 – 200 art, drama, cabaret, comedy, music, literature, spoken word, health and lifestyle and food and drink events. They are a self funded community led and volunteer run festival. They had the first festival in 2013, 2019 will be their seventh annual festival.

Writing THAT Book with Gordon Brown

The 16th May sees top Scottish author, Gordon Brown, host a workshop “Writing THAT Book” which is a must for all budding writers! Join him at The Cellar Southside, as he dives deep into the murky waters of crime and thriller writing!

Ever felt like writing the one book that everyone talks about having in them – but don’t know where to start? Gordon Brown is a thriller and crime author and one of the founding directors of Bloody Scotland, Scotland’s International Crime Writing Festival. He has six books to his name and will share his experience of writing and publishing – the good & bad, the ups & downs and, of course, the dos & don’ts.

In a former life, Gordon delivered pizzas in Toronto, sold non-alcoholic beer in the Middle East, launched a creativity business, floated a high-tech company on the London Stock Exchange, compered the main stage at a two-day music festival and was once booed by 49,000 people while on the pitch at a major football Cup Final – so he knows a bit about writing and holding down a day job.

Gordon will also be donning his tea cosy and joining fellow writers, Douglas Skelton, Mark Leggatt and Neil Broadfoot in the infamous #FourBlokesInSearchOfAPlot on the 23rd May.

Take four crime writers, Neil Broadfoot, Gordon Brown, Mark Leggatt and Douglas Skelton – who happen to be blokes. Give them a main character and a M**der weapon. Then watch them take it in turns to create a crime story before your eyes. There’ll be thrills, spills and cliffhangers.

Their shows have had the audiences rolling in the aisles in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dumfries, Stirling, Bute and Newcastle appearing at festivals throughout the land including Bloody Scotland, Newcastle Noir, Bute Noir and the Byres Road Festival and now are coming to the Southside Fringe at The Cellar.
