I am absolutely buzzing to be taking part in the Blog Tour for What She Did by Alex Kane. A massive thanks to the author, Hera Books and Sarah over at BookOnTheBrightSide for inviting me to take part! I’m so happy to be shouting about the book love for this one! And I get to be one of the bloggers kicking off the tour! Happy days! Remember and check out my blog buddy for the day’s review over at FeminisiaLibrosReviews

Before I share my thoughts, here’s what the official blurb says:

Beth is a woman running from her demons. Moving to Glasgow to escape the tragedy that destroyed her – a tragedy that ended with the death of her ex-boyfriend – she’s trying to build a new life, to tentatively find new love. But her past seems to follow her, and try as she might, she can’t shake the feeling that someone is watching her every move.

Victoria is unhappily married to Greg. On their wedding day he told her he would love her until they grew old, but now he’s becoming secretive, staying out for ‘business meetings’ and growing further and further away from his wife. After finding incriminating evidence on his phone, Victoria contacts an old friend for support – the one person in her life that has never let her down yet. She knows her friend will discover the truth – at all costs.

Lydia knows she is the one person that can help Victoria. Jumping straight back into their friendship, despite the four-year absence from Victoria’s life, she vows to stop at nothing to help her get revenge. Good friends will do anything for each other, right? But Lydia has made a new friend in Beth. And now, neither of them is safe… Three women. Three stories. One secret to bind them all. A shocking, darkly gripping psychological with a twist in the tale that will leave you open mouthed. Fans of BA Paris, Lisa Hall and Gone Girl won’t be able to put this one down…

My thoughts:

Can you hear the scary music playing in the background or what? “What She Did” had me hooked right from page one with a whole host of unanswered questions meaning that I was compelled to keep reading to find out the answers! And by God was I compelled, I couldn’t put it down!

The novel switches between the past and present lives of three women, Beth, Victoria and Lydia, the time changes might seem a little bit confusing to start with, but I promise you, stick with it, you will get into the rhythm and find that it all fits in perfectly to this storyline. And what it also does is to create a very real sense of suspense. Lots of little snippets of information are scattered about and they form together to provide a deeply dark and intense picture that worms its way underneath your skin!

And on the subject of intense, these three women were intense and then some! Each of them crawled into my head and refused to leave me. They enthralled me and creeped me out at the same time. I didn’t know who to trust. I switched from feeling sorry for each of them to despising them all. At times I wanted to reach into the pages and pull them out of the nightmare they were living in and at others, I wanted to slam the pages shut and leave them trapped in there and out of my head.

Watching the lives of the three women collide in an exploration of control, abuse, lies and toxic relationships was like watching a car crash play out in front of my eyes and I was unable to stop looking no matter how disturbing it became. A perfectly executed plot and well drawn characters made for a dark and twisted read! This was definitely a “keep you up well past your bedtime” kinda read! Don’t miss it! It’s brilliant!
