The Edinburgh book festival takes place over two weeks and sadly this year, I was only able to get through for one day. But what a day it was!
First up was lunch with Karen Sullivan of Orenda books, author Michael J Malone and my fellow #OrendaFairies Mary and Louise (we had been given the honour of running the Orenda twitter account while Karen was on holiday. And total respect to that woman for all work she does on social media on a daily basis!) lovely lunch and fantastic company in Gusto’s on George St. I’d highly recommend it! Sorry the only pic I took was of my delicious desert, a lemon and raspberry pot with homemade shortbreads! Yumm!
I then had a wee wander around the tents in the gardens and somehow ended up on the 6’0clock news while they were interviewing Sue Perkins! #TheShame
The panel I had been desperate to go to was “Where Truth Meets Crime” with the legends that are Denise Mina and Matt Wesolowski talking all things podcast and true crime. Brilliantly chaired by Zoe Venditozzi, it was the quickest hour ever! A fascinating insight into the thoughts and the minds of two genius writers, all manner of subjects were covered from the fascination with crime fiction to the ethical questions raised by true crime when the victims are denied a voice.
I’m always sad that I can’t attend the festival daily but maybe one year! If you get the chance to go through for even one event, I’d highly recommend it. There really is something for everyone there!
