I’m delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for Tony J Forder’s “The Death of Justice”. Thanks to the author and to the publisher for the ARC to review.
Before I share my thoughts, here’s what the official blurb says:
One night. Two shootings. Two victims.
When DI Bliss arrives at the scene of the second murder, he recognises the same three-shot pattern as the first. But there is one major difference: the second victim has been decapitated, the head nowhere to be found.
When a second headless corpse is discovered the following day,
Bliss and his team realise the killer is on a spree – and he’s not done yet.
After Bliss links the killings and forms a task force with officers from Lincolnshire, they uncover further disturbing news: the murders are not the first in the series – there are four more
headless victims, and the Lincolnshire team believe they know why. Not only that, they are also convinced that more potential victims are on the killer’s list.
In a race against time to save further loss of life, Bliss constantly finds himself one step behind and chasing shadows.
In order to flush out the hired assassin, he and his team have no choice but to put their own lives at risk. But will everyone survive?
To keep a secret hidden you must bury the truth
Death of Justice opens with Bliss dealing out his own particular brand of justice, setting the scene for what was a taut and fast paced police procedural featuring DI Bliss.
I have to confess, I’ve missed a few of the books before this one and so was not as familiar with all the team dynamics as I’d like to have been. That said, this did not detract from this well thought out and tightly plotted novel. Tony J. Forder has a terrific knack of writing a police procedural that is most brilliant in its accuracy without straying over to the information dump side!
The characters were all particularly well drawn and fans of the series will recognise and understand the underlying tensions that exist between them all. I love that Bliss is a little bit of a loose cannon & that his superiors indulge him to an extent. He’s a maverick yet remains a likable character. His relationship with his team is realistic, there is a good balance between bolshie and supportive which again adds to the authenticity of the read.
The chapters featuring the killer are chilling to say the least. A portrayal of evil perfectly executed. This has it all, a psychopathic serial killer, police corruption, and a quest for revenge and justice. It kept me guessing all the way to the very end and had my heart racing throughout. The tension created was brilliant and as hinted at in the blurb, my heart was in my mouth as I watched Bliss and his team stray into some very real danger. It was a real nail-biter and towards the end, I read it so fast that I had to go back and re-read the ending again. This is a definite roller-coaster ride of a read!
