I’m delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for the latest Alex Kane book, The Angels. Thanks to the author, publisher and Sarah over at Bits About Books for inviting me to take part.

Today, I’m closing down the tour alongside my #Twinnie CrimebookJunkie so check out her review too!

Before I share my thoughts, here’s what the official blurb says:

It takes a good woman to take down a bad man

Amber. As the top performer at Angel Silk gentleman’s club, she’s seen it all, been forced to do things she never wanted to do. She’s tired of this life… but can she escape it?

Lizzy. To the women at Angel Silk, she’s the strong queen bee, mother to the girls. But she’s hiding her own dark secrets – and if they come to light, her life could be destroyed.

Jade. The newest dancer at Angel Silk, she’s innocent, beautiful… and trapped. She’s in over her head – but does she have the strength to break free?

Three women, all under the control of feared gangster, Marcus. To take back their lives, they need to come together. But will he let them go – or will finding freedom mean paying the ultimate price?

A completely addictive, gripping and gritty gangland thriller that will have you hooked. If you like Martina Cole, Kimberly Chambers or Jacqui Rose, you will love this nail-biting read.

My thoughts

The Angels is a standalone from up and coming Scottish author, Alex Kane and in this novel she invites her readers to take a dangerous step into the chilling underworld of the Glasgow gangland scene. Be warned, what you are about to see is not cosy crime!

Three women take us through a dark and gritty tale of life behind the scenes of the exclusive gentleman’s club, Angel Silk. Amber, Lizzie and Jade all find themselves caught up in the sinister goings on and under the watchful eye of Marcus. All are taken in by his charm and promises of happy ever after but you just know that there is no way that is going to happen.

What follows is a chilling tale of abuse, control, drugs and trafficking all headed up by Marcus and his brother Tommy, who on the face of it seemed a bit like a modern day version of the Kray twins; charming yet chilling exteriors hide ruthless and cold blooded personalities, where women become commodities to make money. I wanted to reach into those pages and drag Marcus out by the scruff of the neck and dump him in the River Clyde myself!

Set in Glasgow there are plenty of familiar places for those who live in and know the area which really served to place you at the heart of the story.

As each woman tells their story, the secrets and truths begin to spill out and the three women have to dig deep to find the strength they need to escape from a life that will ultimately lead to death. The plot moves along at a swift pace, keeping the pages turning and the jaw dropping. The twists and turns just kept coming as each dark secret was uncovered. The themes of abuse, control, addiction and trafficking are hard hitting and brutal but make for a gripping read.

A taut, tense and tantalising read!
